You have almost made it through your first semester of college and survived this collaborative studies experience. What did you like best and least about our time together in UNV 1010, WRT 1010 and BIO 1030?
Please respond to this final post by Tuesday, Nov. 26. This is worth 2 points, so respond in greater detail.
In WRT 1010 I did not like having to make videos. It's something that I really do not enjoy doing that much anyway, however, I did like that the things we wrote about have been things about our own life, where we didn't need to do a ton of research. That being said, I don't like talking about my life, and it's not something people want to hear (or read) about. UNV 1010 is all right, I love that we get candy, and Amanda is great, but I'm not exactly comfortable with talking in front of people a whole lot or to people I do not know, so some of the things we had to do were incredibly difficult for me. I have learned a lot about myself from this class, though. There isn't a whole lot that I dislike about BIO 1030, and at the moment I can't really think of anything. Maybe the tests. Yeah, I don't like the tests much. It is very clear to me that our instructors want us to succeed. I was told that, in college, the instructors won't care if you pass or fail, but Neal, Veronica, and Amanda do everything they can to make sure we do well, and I think that is the best part about our time together.
ReplyDeleteIn WRT 1010 I liked how we had freedom with what we wrote, and how when they were graded they paper was not torn apart and points taken off for every little thing. I didn't like making the Pure Madonna video, I did not understand the point of doing it and felt we could have better spent our time. In BIO 1030 I liked how our notes were broken down and were were given study guides for each chapter. Also how we were told what to read in the book, instead of to read the whole chapter, and the demonstrations. I did not like how long the notes took sometimes. With too much information and just sitting there for a while, it gets overwhelming. UNV 1010 I liked doing the fun activities that Amanda brought and the mood she always brought to the classroom. I like how she is always cheerful and happy, and even stops in to our other classes to see how we are doing. I did not like how sometimes it felt like the book we used in there, was teaching us a lot of what we already knew, and that made when we did those parts a little bit boring. But overall I enjoyed my time in these classes, with the Instructors. I could really feel that they cared, and that if I needed help, I could go to them anytime.
ReplyDeleteI really thought that splitting our class into groups really helped. It was nice to be in the same classes with people that I already knew and it helped to make the transition to college a lot easier for me. In writing I liked how involved and energetic Neal is. He can have fun but still keep order in the classroom. I did not like how we had to make videos. Before this class I had never made anything and posted it online. I felt clueless and had to rely on help from other people. In UNV I really like how Amanda taught us and brought us candy every day. She once again was able to keep the class interesting by having fun and still teaching. I did not like the icebreakers at all though. For the first couple of weeks, Icebreakers are fine but I thought that it started to get repetitive. For BIO I have no complaints. Veronica is a great teacher who cares about our success and always is willing to help. She is very energetic and always has great visual examples to help us learn.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed my first half of my first year in college. I think that having clusters was a nice way for me to get used to college because i was able to know some people in all my classes. I enjoyed UNV I think it was a nice way for us to learn more about college and also to have a class to feel like I know that i will do good in. In WRT I like how you give us a a chance to change our papers and the fact that they are not due till the end for a final grade. I like how we got a point for writing the paper. For BIO 1030 i loved the labs. I also like some of Veronica's demonstrations it helped me remember some of the things for the test. I also like the notes she did with us for the test. For UNV i really loved having candy every time we had class. I loved the ice breakers that we did they were a lot of fun. This experience was much better then i had thought that my first semester in college would of been.
ReplyDeleteSplitting our class into clusters really helped everyone get to know each other. It was nice working with other students who are pursuing the same career choices as I. I loved all of the classes because all of the teachers were persistent in getting through to each student. Each had lots of ideas and demonstrations to keep the information entertaining. In WRT I liked how energetic Neal was, but I did not like having to make the videos. I like writing things by myself like the reflection writing. In UNV I liked how Amanda was always so upbeat and had a list of what we had to get through so everyone knew what we would be working on/going over during class. I didn't like the icebreakers. In BIO, I love biology. Veronica made me love biology even more with her enthusiasm and love for the subject. Her demonstrations throughout lecture helped me to better understand and remember the information.
ReplyDeleteMy first semester of college was nothing like I had guessed. Some things have been much harder than I have thought and other aspects have been much easier for me. I really liked how our classes were broken down into smaller groups. It made it easier to work together and to just get to know each other. I did enjoy all of my classes, but out of all of them WRT 1010 was probably my least favorite. I did not like making videos with my writing, I do not enjoy sharing my writing with others, just because I feel I am not very good at it. I loved UNV 1010, this class really helped me open up. Having Amanda was a blessing, she is always so up beat and full of energy, which rubbed off on us during class. This class was a great opportunity for us to get to know everyone in our cluster better. BIO 1030 was a struggle for me, but I still enjoyed the class because of Veronica. She makes learning about bio fun and interesting. The long lecture classes were a huge struggle for me, having to take notes the whole time and cramming all of the info is just something I am not used to. I struggle with BIO and Veronica tries to help all of us to make sure we succeed. I feel that our cluster has pretty much the best set of professors, Neil, Veronica, and Amanda are always so full of energy it makes coming here so much easier!
ReplyDeleteI learned a lot about myself my first semester here at Madonna. I learned what I am capable of, what habits work best for me, and what I want for my future here at Madonna.
ReplyDeleteFirst of, I loved the small clusters. It made UNV 1010 so much more enjoyable and allowed me to really enjoy the lessons all my teachers provided. It added to a more hands on experience and made learning so much easier. As I move further along in my college years I expect my classes to get bigger and the experience to get less personalized. I can take advantage of this experience now by learning skills that will make me a stronger individual student.
This was not a perfect semester though, but as a true Bio major I know that even data that does not agree with your hypothesis holds key information. In other words, even though I didn't accomplish everything I set out to do knowing where I came up short and making a plan to fix it is what is most important. My personal experiences and professors showed me that I can get involved in so many things (i.e. student ambassadors and student life and of course volunteer work) and still be a good student. That is what Iiked most about my first semester in college.
I hated the food though. The food sucks.
