Halfway point
We have reached the midpoint of your first semester in college. What has been your biggest surprise so far? Biggest disappointment? What are you thoughts as you ponder what classes to take next semester. Please respond by Tuesday, Oct. 22.
My biggest surprise would probably be how many friends I've made already! In high school I used to be extremely shy and never talk to anyone out of my small circle of friends, but over the last semester I was able to branch out and meet new people. My biggest disappointment has been in myself unfortunately and how much I still procrastinate. Procrastination to the level I take it will not get me through college, I don't very well know how to shake it off though, I have been trying to for the last oh, eight years of my life when it comes to my schoolwork.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest surprise so far would probably be how easy college has been so far. I was coming in afraid that it would be really really hard. But so far it has not been. The teachers teach really well, to the point where I understand the material and what I do not understand, they are willing to help. My biggest disappointment has been not being able to attend a lot of on campus activities. Most of the activities are during my classes or when I have to work. Since I do not live on campus, it makes it hard to attend. My thoughts as to what classes to take next semester is, I wonder what teachers I will have, how my new classes will be. What my new schedule will be like.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest surprise so far is how well I have adapted to school. Throughout high school I was always quiet and I never really talked much unless it was to a friend. The fact that I was a quiet kid and that I had went to an all guy school for high school scared me. I was afraid I would be that awkward kid and not make any friends but fortunately I was able to make friends. My biggest disappointment so far is that I haven't found a group of people to play sports with. I also do not get to many campus activities because I don't live on campus. Most of the time I do not even know what activities are happening. My thoughts on picking next semesters classes has been relaxed so far.
ReplyDeleteThe best part of college so far that is surprising to me is how easy college classes seem to be. That, as well as, how many people I've met and been able to hangout with. Not playing sports is a hard part because the gym is always taken so I can't just go shoot around whenever I want. However, I'd have to say that not having money to do things or get food on the weekends when the cafe is closed is really disappointing. I guess that's the college student's life.
ReplyDeletePicking out classes hasn't been very hard at all considering I've known what I want to take since middle school. When my senior year of high school ended I immediately opened up the Madonna bulletin and figured out every class I need to take for the next 4 years. You could say I was excited. Picking out classes with my friends was a fun part of the process because I'll have at least two friends in all my classes next semester.
My biggest surprise was how quiet the dorms are. Usually, you think of dorms as very loud, but the dorms here are extremely quiet. It almost feels like a mausoleum on the weekends. My biggest disappointment is that there's almost nothing to do here on the weekends. The only things I can do on the weekends are work or play solitary video games. I am considering what classes will fulfill the general education requirement and not bore me to death.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest surprise about college are the people. I have met some really great people since coming to college but I have also met some not so college ready individuals as well. Honestly, some people could benefit from re-living their senior year of high school just to grow up. I think it all boils down to the high school experience people had, its clear that not everyone is used to the mixed social atmosphere college really bring or the social etiquette that comes along. Being intelligent is not enough to get you anywhere in life, dealing with people and respecting the differences you have is half the battle. Making a person feel dumb wont make you any smarter and making a person feel less popular wont make you any more likable. Some people have not gotten over themselves yet and I dont have the patience to wait for them to suck a little less. The best part of college would be finding so many different oppurtunities to get involved around campus, from internships to jobs and student life. As I look into my classes for next semester I take into consideration what I am prepared for as well as what I will need to pursue an education at Temple University of Philadelphia's School of Dentistry.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest surprise would have to be how everyone talks to everyone for me that is so much different then I am used to. I think that my biggest biggest disappointment would have to be the fact that I did not do very good on my first bio test but I have been studying more. I have already picked my classes so when I went to pick them I thought of when I wanted to finish school. I also looked at the classes that I would have to take for both of my majors and that seemed to help me out a lot. So far I love and school.
ReplyDeleteI would have to say that my biggest surprise would have to be how much I have to study now than compared to high school. I enjoy the fact the everyone here is so friendly and open. I would have to say that my biggest disappointment would be the fact that I am a commuter and it is sometimes hard for me to do things on campus because it is a 45 minute drive for me to get here. I am excited to pick my classes for next semester which I will do today. I hope that I do not have to drive here every day of the week and I hope that I will have classes with the friends I have already made.
