Start something

Blake Mycoskie in the book "Start Something That Matters" asks "If you did not have to worry about money, what would you do with your time?" Answer that question and explain why by noon, Tuesday, Sept. 24.

  1. If I didn't have to worry about money in the slightest I would probably be doing everything I could to help the world everywhere and learn all that I could. I would love to travel and visit everywhere there is to be in the world and gain new experiences much different from the ones that I'm comfortable with and new people that are entirely different from me. I would probably also order text books by the hundreds of subjects I'm truly interested in such as most of the social and physical sciences. I would love so much to be able to live without the worry of money - not by having enough, but by not having it at all. But we all know that wouldn't happen in our lifetime.

  2. If I did not have to worry about money my main goal would be to become a publisher. The authors I would work with would need to be aware that my publishing company is not like any other. The books are sold for the hardcover price, however they would be paperback. The extra money would then go to an organization I'd create that helps fund money for teachers and supplies to help kids and even adults read. I would do this because, I don't know where I'd be in life right now without the many books I've read. The thought that some may never get the opportunity to read makes me sick. I would want to make the option available and have a safe environment for people who want to learn how to read.

  3. If I did not need to worry about making money I would spend as much time as possible with my family and friends. Family is more important than anything for me. I always have a great time at family events but never see my relatives as much as I would like. Everyone always seems to be busy and we have to plan events around jobs. Secondly, I would spend my time volunteering and helping others get through their hard times.

  4. I would start off living a life of leisure. It would be nice for a while, but as with everything, I would rapidly tire of it. After that, I would find many other things to do to use my time. I would do volunteer work for various organizations. I would volunteer at soup kitchens, in my church, and at community events. I would need to keep myself busy, and volunteer work would be a nice, low commitment way to do so.

  5. If money was negligible, I would strive to open a horse barn where kids from homes, shelters, and the physically disabled could come spend a day at the ranch and forget about their everyday struggles. I currently volunteer at a ranch similar to this that takes in rescue horses and ponies that holds events for all occasions. The owner, Gael, started it with her husband and has put all of her time and effort into it to make it flourish. With my time and efforts I wish to help her make it grow so that more orphanages and homes around the state would know about Victory Ranch. Horses and animals have always been apart of my life and dreams. Even with money I hope to pursue a degree in Veterinary Studies to become a well-known vet. With my doctorate I would be the vet for the ranch and many others around the country. Horses are gentle giants and can calm any person if they allow them to step into their lives.
